REVIEW AND SYNTHESIS Relationships am ong net primary productivity, nutrients and climate in tropical rain forest: a pan-tropical analysis

چکیده

Tropical rain forests play a dominant role in global biosphere-atmosphere C O 2 exchange. A lthough climate and nutrient availability regulate net primary production (NPP) and decomposition in aU terrestrial ecosystems, the nature and extent o f such controls in tropical forests remain poorly resolved. We conducted a meta-analysis o f carbon-nutrient-chmate relationships in 113 sites across the tropical forest biome. O ur analyses showed that mean annual temperature was the strongest predictor o f aboveground N PP (ANPP) across aU tropical forests, but this relationship was driven by distinct temperature differences between upland and lowland forests. Within lowland forests (< 1 0 0 0 m), a regression tree analysis revealed that foliar and sod-based measurements o f phosphorus (P) were the only variables that explained a significant proportion o f the variation in ANPP, although the relationships were weak. However, foliar P, foliar nitrogen (N), litter decomposition rate (k), sod N and sod respiration were ad directly related with total surface (0-10 cm) soil P concentrations. O ur analysis provides some evidence that P availabdity regulates N PP and other ecosystem processes in lowland tropical forests, but more importantly, underscores the need for a series o f large-scale nutrient manipulations — especially in lowland forests to elucidate the m ost im portant nutrient interactions and controls. Rethinking the causes of deforestation: lessons from economic models.

Concern is rising over the deleterious effects of tropical deforestation. For example, the loss of forest cover influences the climate and reduces biodiversity, while reduced timber supplies, siltation, flooding, and soil degradation affect economic activity and threaten the livelihoods and cultural integrity of forest-dependent people. Such concerns have led economists to expand their effort...

Functioning and disability in recent research from Cameroon: a narrative synthesis

INTRODUCTION People living with disabilities in Cameroon face many barriers to daily functioning and social participation. However, there is limited research on disabilities and their impact. We sought to examine the research related to disability from Cameroon. METHODS We conducted a systematic review, bibliometric analysis, and narrative synthesis of research related to disability, function...

Sulfonic-based precursors (SAPs) for silica mesostructures: Advances in synthesis and applications

Sulfonic acid-based precursors (SAP) play an important role in tailoring mesoporous silica’s and convert them to a solid acid catalyst with a Bronsted-type nature. These kinds of solid acids contribute to sustainable and green chemistry by their heterogeneous, recyclable, and high efficiency features. Therefore, knowing the properties and reactivity of SAPs can guide us to manufacture a sulfona...

Evidence for intensification of the global water cycle: Review and synthesis

One of the more important questions in hydrology is: if the climate warms in the future, will there be an intensification of the water cycle and, if so, the nature of that intensification? There is considerable interest in this question because an intensification of the water cycle may lead to changes in water-resource availability, an increase in the frequency and intensity of tropical storms,...
